Video: Charlie Johnson from Johnson Farms in Madison, South Dakota, discusses their organic farming land management practices on 2,400 acres. They use a six-year crop rotation with 250-275 acres dedicated to each rotation segment. The farm has been organic since 1976 and has 180 head of cattle. Johnson emphasizes the importance of crop rotations, cover crops, green manure, and composted poultry manure and wind-rolling cattle manure for fertility.
